    Does not install properly

"after installing this file I could not even see it in Sketch Up 6.0 under Plugin load. Doesn t seem to work out properly. "

In SketchUp, load the Ruby Console (Under the Windows Menu), and type in:

         load 'irender_loader.rb'

Let us know if you get an error message.

    Are you running WIndows XP?

    Re: Does not install properly

    Hi,

I am a newbie approaching iRender, but have been using SketchUp for some time now.

When I install irender_nXt, my SketchUp session freezes, and Windows tells me it is "Not Responding!"

I tried the 'load irender', line in the Ruby console, and get the following message:

    load 'irender_loader.rb'
    **** Loading: IRender_loader.rb
location not found: HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Render Plus Systems\IRender_location
location not found: HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Render Plus Systems\IRender_V2_location
    $irender_release_folder:
    $irender_debug_folder: c:/devc_2005/IRender/ardll_debug
location not found: HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Render Plus Systems\IRender_location
    $sext_render_release_folder:
    $sext_render_debug_folder: c:/devc/Sext_Render/ardll_debug
    irender_base.rb not found for V2.0
    raydll_base.rb not found for V1.0
    true

Can you please advise what I am supposed to do?

    Re: Does not install properly

Did you download and install IRender nXt from the Download area of this forum?

In the ruby console, you should have type in: load 'irender_nxt_loader.rb'

(I see that I gave the wrong instruction in the previous reply.)

You apparently typed in: load 'irender_loader.rb' which is the older version of the software.

After installing IRender nXt, did IRender_nXt load appear on the plugins menu?

Load the Ruby Console, so we can see the error messaged, but select:  IRender_nXt load from the plugins menu and see what happens.

SketchUp still freezes; the menus disappear, and I get the not responding message until I close the app. altogether.

    Re: Does not install properly

    After entering

     load 'irender_nxt_loader.rb'
    I get the following:

    **** Loading: IRender_nXt_loader.rb
    $irender_nxt_release_folder: C:\Program Files\Render Plus Systems\IRender_nXt
    $irender_nxt_debug_folder: c:/devc_2005/IRender_nXt/ardll_debug
    LOADING nXt release: C:\Program Files\Render Plus Systems\IRender_nXt/ruby/Irender_base.rb
    **** Loading: IRender_base.rb
    $irender_nxt_release_folder: C:\Program Files\Render Plus Systems\IRender_nXt
    $irender_nxt_debug_folder: c:/devc_2005/IRender_nXt/ardll_debug
    birnxt_auto_load: false
Setting up for nXt release mode
    AFTER LOAD nXt release
    true

and then the machine still freezes like an eskimo in a big white blizzard

    Re: Does not install properly

Those are the normal messages for load 'irender_nxt_loader.rb', I get the same messages when I type that in.

I'm assuming that you get the frozen screen after you click on the menu 'Plugins/Irender_nXt load', or does it freeze immediately after typing in 'irender_nxt_loader.rb'?

If you are able to click on the 'Plugins/Irender_nXt load', does anything else appear in the ruby console?

Also, Could you tell us what operating system you're running on, and how much memory you have? Then we could see if we could duplicate this result here.

    Thanks for replying, so promptly.

"Yes" is the answer to your question in regard to other messages in the Ruby Console, after clicking the ..._nXt load menu. However, there the system freezes, and I can't for the life of me, work out how to type all of that information into this page.

If it is any help, the bottom three lines of the message, are:

    REQUIRE nXt DLL: C:\Program Files\Render Plus Systems\Render_nXt\bin_nXt/IRender_nXt.dll

    GETWD: C:\Program Files\Render Plus Systems\Render_nXt\\bin_nXt

    BEFORE REQUIRE model_id: 112850272

My system in Windows XP SP2, with 2 x 250Gb SATA HDD, Intel 2.4GHz Processor, 2.0 GB Ram, and 128Mb ATI Video card

    Re: Does not install properly

In my ruby console, at that point,  I see:

    C:\Program Files\Render Plus Systems\IRender_nXt\bin_nXt/IRender_nXt.dll
    REQUIRE nXt DLL: C:\Program Files\Render Plus Systems\IRender_nXt\bin_nXt/IRender_nXt.dll
    GETWD: C:/Program Files/Render Plus Systems/IRender_nXt/bin_nXt
    BEFORE REQUIRE model_id: 35362140
    AFTER REQUIRE
    AFTER REQUIRE model_id: 35362140
    DLL loaded...

So it looks like, for you, it's dying trying to load our main DLL: IRender_nXt.dll

Can I get you you to run a troubleshooting tool, depends.exe, on that DLL? It will tell us what other DLLs, that our DLL needs, might be missing on your machine.

If you can run depends.exe for me, here are the instructions:

There is a program called depends.exe which will examine a DLL and tell us what it is missing.

    You can download it from:

    ftp://ftp.renderplus.com/_download/Other/depends.zip

    1. Extract the file in theZIP file to someplace.
    (I created a new folder called c:\depends)
    2. Execute the program depends.exe
    3. It will launch an application called dependency walker:
    a. click open,
    b. navigate to C:\Program Files\Render Plus Systems\Render_nXt\bin_nXt
    c. select IRender_nXt.dll
It will chug for a minute, and the create a report.
    4. Select Save and save the report into IRender_nXt.dwi
5.. Send me the .dwi file so I can look at it here.

    rich.hart@renderplus.com

    Thanks.

    Re: Does not install properly

Sorry for the delay, but I had to go up and see my mom, for a couple of days.

I've gotten hold of depends, and it produces a really good report, by the looks of it, but it says that it's (default) external viewer is Quikview, which regrettably is not available in XP, thus I cannot work out how to save the file, in anyway at all.

Can you shed some light on this, please.

I'm puzzled at your reference to "Quikview".

Did you unzip and rub the depends.exe program that I referred to...that is on our ftp site?

Or is this some other "depends"?

Yes - The long Name (Description) for it is Dependency Walker for Win32 (Intel x86) which i downloaded from your ftp site, yesterday.

The program properties comes up as copyright 1996, microsoft corp!

The icon for it, looks a bit like a flowchart diagram ...

But it certainly does not have a "Save" function ...

    Re: Does not install properly

Depends has two modes. In one mode it checks a DLL to see if the other DLLs is needs area available.

In a second mode, called Profiling, it runs a program and displays messages as it runs which sometimes gives us a clue as to why things aren't working.

In Profiling mode, depends.exe will monitor the progress if the SketchUp application and record any Render Plus trace messages which may help explain where and why things went wrong.

The Render Plus Wiki has a section on how to use Depends

     Depends on Wiki

Follow the instructions on the Wiki page, and send us the profiling output.

We appreciate your help in trying to get IRender nXt to run on your machine. In almost every case in the past we have been able to determine what was wrong and make a fix.
