This is an example of using a wrinkled effect on a material for the ground plane to emulate water.

Notice that the light from the Sky does not intrude, and that the lights (and reflections if there were any) in the rooms would not be effected by the seciton.

(Only the visibility of what we are able to see)

This is a sample using the Wrinkle Procedural Bump map create a water effect.

Notice the subtle reflection of the building and the sky in the water.

This sample used a scale of 40 inches and intensity of 0.20

Caustic transparency and shadows

This image was created with the Caustic material setting in IRender nXt.

A caustic is the envelope of light rays reflected or refracted by a curved surface or object, or the projection of that envelope of rays on another surface.

The Caustic effect produces focused light and shadow effects from a point light.

This is a glass bowl of apples, (with a pyramid procedural bump effect), and a glass cone, rendered with transparency and refraction, and with Caustic effects. (Reflection 0.90, refraction 1.15).

These scene is illuminated with a spotlight.

Note: Caustic does not currently work with the Sun for illumination. This scene was illuminated with a spotlight.

In IRender nXt an object is declared as Caustic by setting the Caustic flag on a material and applying the material to the object, face, or surface.

To create an illuminated sign, I built a box with a glowing back wall and a transparent image on the front.

Automatic Bump Maps

This is an example of the "Automatic Bump Map" feature of IRender nXt.

This is a wall with SketchUp's stone material, and two spot lights shining on the the material.

Using IRender nXt's "Automatic Bump Map" feature, the texture is rendered as if the light and dark areas of the texture represented elevations and depressions in the wall itself.

(Bump maps have their best effect when there is lighting at an angle to the material, because the bump map 3D effect is more pronounced when there is light shining on the material.)

This is a rendering of the same wall without Automatic Bump Map.
